This dairy-free hot chocolate recipe is made with four simple ingredients, and can easily be adjusted to your liking. You will need:

  • 1 cup (8oz) cashew milk (here)
  • 9 raw cacao wafers (here)
  • 2 1/2 tsp pure maple syrup (here)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • ​optional – whipped cream, vegan marshmallows, shaved dark chocolate

Homemade Hot Cocoa With Cacao Wafers

First, pour the plant-based milk into a small saucepan or milk frothing pitcher. We are using cashew milk, but you can use any dairy-free milk. Here are a few great options:

  • oat milk
  • soy milk
  • almond milk
  • lite coconut milk

Next, add the maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cacao wafers. Think of cacao wafers as giant vegan chocolate chips. They are 100% cacao, unsweetened baking chocolate. Ingredients

  • 1 cup (8oz) cashew milk
  • 9 raw cacao wafers
  • 2 1/2 tsp pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine dairy free milk, cacao wafers, maple syrup, vanilla extract and pinch of salt in small saucepan.
  2. Warm over medium heat and stir until cacao is comepletely melted
  3. Whisk to combine using a handheld milk frother
  4. Serve in a mug topped with dairy free whipped cream, chocolate shavings, vegan marshmallows.
