If you have pickle fever then I feel the need to clarify one thing. These pickle shots are not to be confused with a pickleback shot. A pickleback shot is where a shot of liquor is chased with a shot of pickle brine, whereas this vodka pickle shot recipe combines the shot of pickle juice with a good quality vodka to create your new favorite shot.
How to Make this Dill Pickle Shots Recipe
To make these pickle shots you will need:
- 5 Ounces of Dill Pickle Juice (brine)
- 5 Ounces of your favorite Vodka
- Tajin Seasoning (appx 3 Tbsp)
Optional to Garnish:
- Extra Pickle Juice
- Pickle Chips
- Gherkin Pickles
First, gather the ingredients, along with a cocktail shaker, a cocktail jigger, and a strainer. You can grab these items online here:
Mixing the Shots
First, use the cocktail jigger to measure the vodka and add it to the cocktail shaker.
Next, add the pickle juice to the shaker. You can use pickle juice from a standard jar of pickles in your refrigerator or pantry. Gently shake to combine pickle juice and vodka.
Tajin Garnish
Tajin is a blend of chili pepper, lime and salt. It is tangy, salty, and slightly spicy with a citrusy flavor. It also has a subtle chili flavor, similar to chili powder which creates the perfect balance to the tartness of the pickle juice and the extra kick of the vodka.
Use a bit of extra pickle juice to rim the shot glasses with a tajin garnish. Simply dip the rim of the shot glass in a bit of pickle juice, then dip it in the tajin. Be sure to garnish the rim of the glass before you pour the shot in.
Make sure that you do NOT salt the rims of the shot glasses. The salty flavor is way too much even for an avid fan of pickles.
Pour the pickle shot into each shot glass.
If you choose to skip the Tajin then simply garnish with a pickle chip and enjoy.
Dill Pickle Shots Recipe with Tajin Seasoning
This pickle shots recipe yields 5-6 shots (10 ounces) and is one of our favorite briny cocktails. The shot of vodka with a tart pickle flavor is one of the most popular shots according to a few local bartenders we know. You can even add a splash of hot sauce for an additional kick if you’d like.
This shots recipe is equal parts vodka to equal part pickle juice but keep in mind that the final product may vary depending on what type of pickle juice you use. We are using dill pickle juice but if you only have Gerkins in the pantry, for example, and use pickle juice from Gerkins then your shot may be a bit sweeter. Feel free to mix it up and try a bit spicy one day and a bit sweet another.
